Sonia and I packed up in no time, dodging the intermittent rainfalls, and headed out of Wombeyan for the Blue Mountains driving through the thickest fog ever. SO exciting for us Top Enders since we might get to see a light mist once a year if up early enough. The road, as well as tree shapes and oncoming traffic, appeared as we are just about on them. It was just so beautiFULL and mystical!
Stopped in at Oberon to have lunch and rummage a few second hand shops, then made our way into Katoomba visiting historic locations and lookouts along the way. Scored a gorgeous little boutique hotel just up the road from the famous three sisters and settled in for takeout, wine, lounges, TV, games and laughs.
The next day was totally glorious and perfect for a sight seeing adventure around Echo point and the Three Sisters (the crowds were phenomenal), Cliff Drive and into Leura for lunch. What a quaint little village with all its cafes and speciality shops.
Back to Katoomba to drop Sonia off to the train for her trip back to Darwin. Thanks for coming down Sonia… It was a total Hoot!!!!!
I stayed another night in Katoomba but the next day was very very cold, overcast and raining and I just needed to find a space to dry out and warm up!!! I was pretty much over the rain thats for sure. Consulting the weather maps for NSW and a quick call to cousin Jacinta to ensure there even was a sun, I headed back out to Dubbo for some chill out time, lots of cupolas* excellent company, good food and some country livin! Checked out the ZOO, bought some ugh boots and stocked up for a return to the Warrumbungles.
